Services | Description

At by the light photography we specialize in wedding photography in southern Connecticut and the surrounding areas.  Below is a list of the services we offer and a brief description of each:

Wedding Photography:

By The Light Photography’s principal photographer, Christopher Collins, focuses on blending two often conflicting styles of wedding photography into a collection of memories that his client’s will treasure.  Chris’ primary style and passion is wedding photojournalism; a flair for the unscripted.  This style of photography captures moments and emotion rather than poses and static events.  Chris also believes that a prudent wedding photographer cannot neglect wedding portraiture.  It’s an expensive day in which brides and grooms are looking their very best and it would be a shame to miss such an opportunity to capture beautiful portraits.  That said, Chris still leans on his ability to capture life’s unscripted moments even while guiding the script just a little.  Chris had a keen eye for details and emotions and the experience to capture both on film for you!  Depending on your choice of packages and options you can expect one or more photographers at your event to cover some or all of your wedding preparation, ceremony, and reception.  In addition we also offer services before and after the wedding such as couples and engagement sessions, boudoir packages, or trash the dress (TTD) sessions.  These and other services are included in several of the available packages at a significanly-reduced cost.

Wedding Video Vignette:

Utilizing state of the art and revolutionary camera equipment we are able to capture high definition video (true 1080p HD) along side still photography.  The focus is on capturing short video of important moments and details in order to create a short movie for you and your friends to enjoy both online and on DVD.  The video is not meant to supplant traditional wedding videographer but we actually find most clients prefer these short, fast paced, artistic videos to the more traditional wedding video.

New!  Photo Booth:

For your wedding or next event consider a photo booth.   This is not a literal booth but more of a mini studio at your party.  We set up a small studio area with a fun backdrop and a camera and studio lighting set up.  A timer that you control triggers the camera.  Props are provided for you and your guests to show your personality and have fun.  Typically the photos are then hosted on an online gallery for your guests to enjoy but options include on site printing of photos, photo books, photo guest books, and more.  This offering is priced to be very competitive with traditional photo booths and offers a higher quality photo in a more open and expressive format.  This is the best way to really see how much everyone enjoyed your event!

Boudoir Photography:

We all know that photos are a wonderful gift for our loved ones.  Take that gift a step further for your significant other and give the gift of private photos for his/her eyes only.  This service ranges from mild to wild but the best way to describe it is tasteful erotic photography.  A great comparison is pin up pictures.  This is an artistic style of photography designed to capture beauty but also leave room for imagination.  The sessions are relaxed but very professional and comfortable for clients.  Our photographers are skilled at establishing rapport with the clients and it shows.  Photos are typically arranged into books or albums as gifts but can also be hosted privately online for his/her eyes only.  This is a great winter gift idea!

Trash The Dress (TTD)

You spent a fortune on your wedding dress, now let’s trash it!  Hold on!  Names can be deceiving.  Trash the dress photography is often not about doing any physical harm to your beautiful dress but more about getting the value out of a massive investment.  This is an opportunity to get photos in your dress typically after the wedding, though the daring often do it before.  The idea is that the photos are generally of activities or locations where one wouldn’t normally expect a bride in her dress.  Imagine bride standing still in Grand Central Station while the crowd of business commuter bustles past in a blur, or bride and groom skipping across a crosswalk in midtown.   Let’s push it a little further…  Lets go out on the beach, in the sand, and even in the surf.  The photos are breathtaking.  Capture yourself in your expensive dress just being yourself!  These sessions take place before you dryclean and store your dress, this is your chance to remember your dress, and remember your beauty, instead of remembering a drycleaning box on the shelf in your closet.

Lifestyle Photography:

Lifestyle photography is a broad title that covers the other services we offer.  This includes location portraiture of individuals, families, newborns, groups, events, and more.  Some examples include the following:  Newborn photography, couples, engagement, families, children, office events, fundraisers, parties, and more.  One subject that deserves special attention is newborn photography.

Newborn Photography:

Our principal photographer, Christopher Collins, is particularly captivated by newborn photography.  As a new parent and experienced photographer Chris has had the unique ability to push the art even further and develop some advanced techniques.  The best time to capture your child as a true newborn is within the first ten days of life.  We will capture your bundle of joy in a very artistic and safe way.  You will never gat back those first few days of your babies life so don’t miss them!  We schedule newborn sessions on short notice and look forward to spending that special time with you and your baby.
