Here is the slide show from a Manhattan Couples session. I got to spend the day with an awesome couple and explore some new and familiar places in New York City. First stop was in Chelsea at the High Line. The High Line was an elevated rail system until I belive about 20 years ago… Locals learned that wild grasses had taken hold on the platform and would sneak up there to get away from the asphalt. In the face of demolition a group came together and saved the High Line to turn it into a one of a kind park. It is a beautiful walk and has some beautiful scenery, it was awesome!
Following the Chelsea High Line the photo session migrated to some interesting parts of the meat packing district where we sought out some fun textures and colors. One of the most interesting surprises came in editing when we found the word CARE was spray painted behind the couple, aiding a nice touch to the composition. Next stop, Chelsea Market! The market provided a welcome break after a long morning in the beautiful springtime sun. The couple enjoyed an amazing gelato and we enjoyed the textures and unique lighting of the Market.
Last stop was Grand Central station for a shot I have long desired. The couple was instructed to stand perfectly still and i had the task of creating a long exposure without the aid of a tripod. This was a great challenge but we mamnaged to get a handful of really excelent shots of the couple surrounded by fast moving blurs of businessmen and tourists.
I walked back to the MOMA Towers where the couple resides when in Manhattan and we were resolved to call it a day when one final opportunity presented itself. Between two buildings just east of the MOMA there is a patio like park with nice picnic tables and seats with a man made waterfall falling in the background. The falls are about 20 feet wide and 20 feet tall and are a beautiful color in the late afternoon shade. A couple of last minute shots here ended up being some of the favorites of the day.
The next part of the shoot was really special for me. I was granted total creative license by the couple and got to have fun with all the new processing and cross-processing techniques that i find very artistically satisfying but am shy of using for fear of not obtaining my customers aesthetic. I’m happy and my client was happy. Happy photographers like the photos so much that they give lots of free extras
Like this slide show!
